Cedar Cutter

a fat bellied mosquito

shaking on a canvas wall

inside, a rum cask and pipe

asleep by flour and sugar

his wire beard

brushing against a shirt pocket

gold coins in leather

a dingo sniffs the campfire

trotting under a dozen leafless trees

hollow-tap, crocodile skin bark

monarchs reaching to a winter star

shoulder muscles at peace

a toss and dream of a distant Alice

and a vision of spring;

red leaves on the Cedar
